The candles represent any group of individuals, families, peoples or nations united in Peace.

Perhaps the candles might even represent people wearing brightly colored robes walking through the desert.

An interesting 3 dimensional effect is created with this very unique, contemporary interpretation of the traditional eight-branched Chanukah menorah, also known as a Chanukiah. The ninth candle, or shamash, is used to light the other candles--one for each night of Chanukah.

Spacers are placed behind all collage pieces, which, under bright light creates interesting shadows on the textured, watercolor paper background. It may appear as if the candles are actually flickering. All collage pieces are individually hand-painted, cut and arranged by the Artist.
Holiday: On Passover, We Remember Camellias and pansies are inset into Stars of David. Pesach (or Passover) is written on the Seder plate, which contains traditional Passover symbols. Archival giclée print, ready for framing. About giclée prints.
Holiday: Rosh Hashona The Seeing Eye represents God`s omniscience. The ladder links heaven and earth, and represents an individual`s fate and spiritual development. Views of the Old City of Jerusalem are illustrated through the ladder, and the Judean desert is within the ark. The Book of Life has glowing Hebrew Chai, meaning life. Pillars evoke the temple and the Torah. Vines encircling the pillars are fashioned, at the top, into the Hebrew letter shin, another symbol for God. The sun and crescent moon evoke the change of seasons and the passage of time. Grapes and pomegranates are among the seven biblical species associated with the land of Israel, and also represent fertility. Apples and honey are symbolically eaten on Rosh Hashanah to express our desire for a good and sweet year. Olive branches surround the words in Hebrew and English: Inscribe Us in the Book of Life. The background sky transforms into twin tallitot, or traditional prayer shawls. Archival giclée print, matted and ready for framing. About giclée prints.
Holiday: Shalom Chanukiah The word Shalom in Hebrew and English rises from the Western Wall in Jerusalem. The bottom half of the lamed-shamash is in the shape of the state of Israel. Archival giclée print. About giclée prints.

Tikkun Olam has Nina in the vineyards. Her Tikkun Olam is to create art to beautify people`s lives. All the grape leaves have transformed into hearts to signify Nina`s love going out into the world through her art.

Pomegranates: The seeds of a pomegranate, according to biblical teachings, number 613--the same number of mitvot, or good deeds, contained in the Torah. Twin blue lines represent the Israeli flag and a tallit or prayer shawl. Sun and moon represent the change of seasons, the passage of time and the torah being passed down from generation to generation.

Dove over Sonoma: The dove of peace soars above vineyards and golden, rolling hills. Pomegranates represent the Torah; grapevines become Hebrew letters for chai (To Life!), a menorah, and shalom (peace). We also see olive branches, grapes, Italian cypress trees and barns.

A Good Year: A stylized Magen David becomes an apple tree of life which conveys Rosh Hashona (New Year) greetings.

Dove over Jerusalem: This night time vision of peace in the holy land expresses our endearing hopes.

Shalom: The dove has been traditionally associated with peace. In the story of Noah`s ark, it was a dove bringing an olive branch in her mouth which let Noah know that the waters had receded enough for life to reappear on earth.

Menorah: In dark nights in the midst of winter, Jews around the world light the menorah celebrating Hanukkah. This holiday recalls the triumph of light over darkness and justice over tyranny.

Torah II: The Torah represents the heart and soul of the Jewish people and is referred to as the tree of life. This torah has the message: Sh`ma Yisrael--which is the watchword of our faith expressing our belief in one G-d.

Mazal Tov II: Bright, jewel-tone colors and many textures highlight this card of congratulations or mazal tov.

Schecheyanu Presents the blessing which gives thanks to God for bringing us to this season. English words in calligraphy read: Praised are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, for granting us life, for sustaining us, and for helping us to reach this day. Archival giclée print. Tikkun Sonoma Tikkun Olam, developed by 17th century Jewish mystics, is a teaching which means to repair the world, primarily through social justice and environmental action. This watercolor painting is a symbol of healing: for individuals, for society and the environment. Although the woman in this painting is meant to be Every Woman, she also represents my artist`s life and me. My heart is in all that I do, and all that I create. To Life! Festival Logo Within days of returning from Israel in January 2001, I created this collage to express my hope of peace and continuity for Jerusalem and Israel. It has over 150 individual watercolor-painted pieces. The foreground depicts a luxurious mosaic floor tile from Masada. The top is Jerusalem, and includes the Western Wall and Dome of the Rock. The dove has Shalom--peace--in its wings. Chai is inscribed over an entrance to the Old City; and the upper reach of the palm is the letter Shin. Three small, golden, six-pointed stars evoke the memory of King David who made Jerusalem our temporal and spiritual home. The upper half of the To Life! with Mosaic collage became the logo of To Life! A Jewish Cultural Street Festival held in Palo Alto, CA in September 2001. Archival giclée print. About giclée prints.
