Frequently Asked Questions

Nina’s Watercolors and Watercolor Collages

Because of their vivid colors, Nina’s watercolors often resemble acrylics more than watercolors. This is due to over 30 years of Nina’s color experimentation with an intense color palette and her innate color sense. She often painstakingly overlays multiple color glazes to achieve her signature, intense colors.

What does mixed media mean and what media does Nina use?

The term “mixed media” means that a piece of art uses more than one type of art medium.  Instead of using just paint—watercolors and acrylics-- a piece might also include collaged papers, colored pencil and inks.  She may also include found objects such as metals, gemstones, wood, glass, shells, postage stamps, feathers and much more.  Her originals are most often works on archival watercolor paper, but may also be created on wood panels or canvas.

Prints

Nina creates paintings and then works with one of our nation’s premier, fine art, giclee print companies, located in Sonoma County, to make really good prints. Treat yourself to an amazing, affordable work of art. If you have a question about sizing or framing, email or call Nina. You may also call her directly to place your order.

Giclee is a French word meaning “to spray,” as lightfast, superior quality inks are sprayed on archival, thick watercolor paper.  A print is created from a high-quality digital scan of the original painting or collage. Nina works closely with her professional printer and graphic designer reviewing numerous proofs prior to final printing of all prints. Each print is reviewed, inspected, numbered and hand-signed by the artist. A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies each print.
